NFL Week 14 Thoughts – Inside The Wheelhouse

December 13, 2011 By: Category: NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Todd Haley firedLet’s take a look back at some of the things that stood out from Week 14 in the National Football League!

- The win may have not looked pretty against a below average team in Cleveland but a win is a win and the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to roll as we are now three weeks away from the playoffs beginning. It hasn’t looked pretty in the process nor dominating but the Steelers have now rolled off 8 wins in their last 9 games making them the hottest team in the NFL sans the Green Bay Packers. This team looks to taking a slight edge as a potential AFC favorite as we get closer to the playoffs.

- Whether or not Peyton Hillis returns to the Cleveland Browns won’t be their biggest off-season storyline yet whether or not Colt McCoy is their starting quarterback will be. I believe he is but he needs more weapons because the Cleveland offense isn’t putting him in the best of lights right now. Decent quarterback, ton of potential, just needs to tap into it.

- Okay two things here: who would’ve thought that the Houston Texans would have won the AFC South this season and done it all thanks to current starting quarterback T.J. Yates? You may have thought one of the two but not certainly the latter of them. People may think you can sleep on the Texans but I don’t think so yet, they are still a team that you cannot take for granted.

- The Bengals gave it their all and tried their best to play spoiler but came up short this Sunday. One thing I noticed in this game that is positive for the Bengals is that A.J. Green is a future elite wide receiver and you can see that in his rookie year. I believe he will be discussed in the likes of Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald in a couple of seasons.

- Detroit needed to make a statement today that they were a playoff caliber team and despite winning they did not prove that in the slightest. The Lions have been struggling just as much on the field as they have off of it & needed that win to give them some confidence so they could carry for the rest of the season. I did not see a team that is ready to make a turn yet and prove to be a dangerous team come playoff season.

- Minnesota made a game of it but they are in desperate need of their offensive leader Adrian Peterson. I’m starting to be skeptical based on their record if we will ever see Adrian Peterson suit up for the rest of this season. If not no worries, there is always backup QB Joe Webb to take the carries.

- Speaking of making a statement the New Orleans Saints failed to do the same as well in Week 14 as they barely beat the fading Tennessee Titans. The Saints needed to have a decisive victory to prove that they are an elite team that can knock off the Packers and have failed to do so yet again. They are winning but not decisively like Green Bay has, New Orleans and the Giants (if they make the playoffs) are the most dangerous teams to knock off the defending champs.

- Do you write off the Titans yet? I’m not sold on that until we see how they do in Week 15. But one thing is for sure, you need to win 10 games in the AFC to make the playoffs this season.

- “The Dream Team” living up to their self given nickname in Week 14 as they put the boots to the Dolphins as they continue to play for nothing but a hope & a dream. LeSean McCoy had the crazy statistic of Week 14 as he carried the ball twenty-seven times and only rushed for thirty-eight yards. No matter what, Andy Reid is still getting fired, even if they finish the year 8-8.

- Farewell Tony Sparano. I look forward to Bill Cowher becoming the head coach for the Dolphins next season.

- Rex Ryan stated when the Jets were 5-5 that “every game was a playoff game from here on out” and they are playing like it as they have gone 3-0 in their last three games & becoming the favorite for the sixth seed in the AFC playoffs right now with three games to go. New York has one of the easiest schedules for the rest of the season and I don’t see any reason why they should not make the playoffs at this point. Will they be dangerous like they have in years past, that I am not sure yet.

- Farewell to Todd Haley, very surprising firing to be honest. Would’ve figured he received some sort of pass after the injuries they were dealt to this season. Guess it might have been more then meets the eye in Kansas City.

- New England is the best team in AFC as right now in Week 14. For them to keep that title they need to beat teams like the Washington Redskins convincingly. They failed to do that in Week 14 as their flaws are continuing to be showcased against weak teams in the final stretch of the regular season. If they get a first-round bye I will be shocked if they make the AFC Championship Game at this point.

- Washington’s offense showcased the flaws of the New England defense to the rest of the league. If the Redskins can just barely beat them imagine what a team like the Ravens, Steelers or even the Texans may be able to do. It was a great job by the ‘Skins in making it interesting all the way to the end.

- Atlanta wants to be in the playoffs they proved that to me and the rest of the league today as they came from behind to beat the Panthers this week. At one point I thought we were getting close to putting the “nail in the coffin” on the Falcons but they came back from a pretty good deficit to live for another day. This could be the momentum the Falcons need to carry them for the final push in the regular season.

- Is the wear & tear of the NFL starting to get to Cam Newton? He hasn’t been as dominant in recent weeks and I’m wondering if we could see his flaws being showcased now by the professional defenses in the NFL. You know what they say, time shall tell.

- Don’t know what to say about this Jaguars/Bucs matchup except that Maurice Jones-Drew is a beast. He has had another terrific season that people just don’t realize because he plays for Jacksonville. How he hasn’t demanded a trade to a contender at this point in his career is baffling.

- Could there be a chance the Bucs don’t bring back Raheem Morris next season? I guess only if a Bill Cowher or Jeff Fisher wanted to coach there; I consider him in the same boat as Todd Haley. He is in the hot seat for sure next season.

- The “Suck for Luck” campaign has now reached 13 straight losses! They are getting closer to clinching the #1 pick for the 2012 NFL Draft! Oh and its official, in case you thought it was already but Peyton Manning is done for the season. I am officially shocked.

- Baltimore gets the win and improves to 10-3 on the season. They are still my AFC favorite to make the Super Bowl and are playing very well lately whether it is against good teams or bad teams. I’ll be interested to see if Joe Flacco ever takes the leadership role on this team though.

- If you thought the “cat was out of the bag” on the Green Bay Packers last week then you were wrong as they took it too playoff contender the Oakland Raiders. Green Bay gets a convincing win and now sets itself up to clinch home field advantage next week. The only major concern right now for Green Bay isn’t their schedule for the rest of the season but the health of Greg Jennings.

- I think it’s safe to say that the Oakland Raiders are starting to fade back to where I predicted they would be fading to, yet gave them credit, six weeks ago right? They looked good for that short while but that short while has come and gone. If they want to play in January they need to start acting like it now. I’d almost consider Hue Jackson on the hot seat at the end of this season if they don’t make the playoffs since it is Oakland…

- I feel like I am repeating myself since Denver keeps doing the same thing week after week but damn Tim Tebow is clutch. You have got to give the guy credit for what he continues to accomplish this season. He may never accomplish anything else after this season for the rest of his career but people will always remember the “Tebowmania” that has swept the NFL for the 2011-2012 season as the Denver Broncos currently lead the AFC West with three games to go.

- They have been hit with a slew of injuries to Jay Cutler and Matt Forte & their chances of playing in the playoffs this season will be a miracle at best for the moment. Tough break for the runner-up in the NFC Championship game last season; with that being said is Lovie Smith on the hot seat? Hey look at this way, Todd Haley was fired and the Chiefs made the playoffs last season but have been held back by major injuries as well, think about it.

- In the last five games the San Francisco 49ers are 2-3 despite winning the NFC West and being at one time an easy guess for a first round bye in the NFC playoffs. That has all changed in recent weeks and the Niners flaws are continuing to be showcased by the rest of the league. They are a division leader but they are being led by Alex Smith, the Texans may have more faith in T.J. Yates then San Francisco has in their former #1 overall pick.

- Arizona continues to play well and win when Kevin Kolb isn’t their QB or getting the most reps. Maybe the Cards need to rethink their franchise’s game plan of Kolb being their quarterback. Things just haven’t worked in Kolb’s favor at all in 2011.

- I love how the Chargers have come back from the dead and have looked like the Chargers team we typically remember the last two weeks. They are sitting at 6-7 currently and are still in the playoff mix & should not be counted out just yet. They very well could shock the world and make the playoffs whether it is by Wild Card position or dare I say the AFC West. Stay tuned.

- Man the Buffalo Bills really have disappointed me this season. They are a bad case of a team having two seasons in one season as they started off strong (5-2) and have ended up horrible (0-7) with a record of 5-8 on the season. I really believed this team could have shaken things up in the AFC East and now I’m starting to wonder if they ever will with Chan Gailey as their head coach or with Ryan Fitzpatrick as their quarterback.

- I believe that based off of momentum from the last two weeks, the New York Giants are the 2nd best team in the NFC right now and that is with a record of 1-1 in those two games. They are playing very well, came close to beating Green Bay, defeated Dallas after being behind by 12 with a short time to go and are now atop the NFC East. They needed these two games to set the tone and are looking towards a decent playoff run come January, watching out for the Giants.

- What can you say about Dallas? They had their opportunities but they just did not get things done. Would it shock you if Jason Garrett gets fired during the off-season?

- I can’t believe it either but at least for now the Seattle Seahawks are still in contention to make the playoffs. They have had a great stretch the last couple of games with Marshawn Lynch living up to his “beast mode” nickname in those last 5 games. Seattle has played well down the stretch this season and while I don’t see them making the playoffs (shocking I know), they have a lot to look forward to next season if they can get an actual NFL QB under center.

- Is Steve Spagnuolo the next to go? This team continues to disappoint me as they had a lot to look forward to this season and just have not lived up to their potential.

The Shark’s Fantasy Football Week 14 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

December 08, 2011 By: Category: Fantasy Football, NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Maurice Jones-DrewHey Jeff, I was thinking hard about taking Jamaal Charles this year, what do you think?

Oh I love Charles, and he does lots of good things, but I would take LeSean McCoy before him. I’d also grab Arian Foster, Ray Rice, heck even Aaron Rodgers before Charles, it just feels scary to me” It all seems so easy to say after the thought, but this was some advice I gave to some good friends of mine before the season started. Why go back to it now? Well, we can’t always be right, but heck I like to think I try my best. So even though I fell victim to Charles in one of my leagues, my advice to take Foster worked for me in another. It is the beautiful guessing game we play from August until December known as Fantasy Football.

All of the guessing and trying to be cute or smart are gone. This is it owners, either your playoffs start here (like in our own CCB League, with my squad taking on the blogmaster in round 1), or the week to decide if you even make the playoffs ( one league scenario of mine? Win by a certain amount of points, or win and hope for one loss ).

Yes owners, dance with who you brought, go big or go home, and all those other cute quotes are full steam ahead. Can you trust Marion Barber in place of your meal ticket, Matt Forte? Which C. J. Spiller shows up, 2 weeks ago dud, or last week’s good guy? Many a question, so many hard answers, and I am here to give you any help I can.

This week I have expanded my fields, trying to get the most of every position. I have taken it easy on all the crazy stats in exchange for a larger field of Starts and Sits to choose from. Keep in mind of course I can’t predict injuries or flat out quitters, but it is what I like, and I have been doing this thing long enough to know anything can happen on a given Sunday. So I reach out to all of my friends, owners and fantasy players, believe in the power of your team, believe in the man giving you the advice, but most of all feel free to believe in your superstitions Wear that lucky shirt, drink from that lucky cup, and for all that is holy, do not answer phone calls from your opponent! Good luck everyone, read and enjoy and talk about “playoffs?” (Sorry Jim Mora, it truly never gets old)!

Quarterback

Start

Tom Brady, Patriots at Redskins:You don’t pull on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit in the wind, and you never bench Tom Brady!

Matthew Stafford, Lions vs. Vikings: Do or die time for the Lions, and the Viking defense is playing really bad right now.

Philip Rivers, Chargers vs. Bills: It’s December after all. The return of Malcolm Floyd and a beatable schedule helps.

Aaron Rodgers, Packers vs. Raiders: Only Chuck Norris can out-play Aaron Rodgers, maybe?

Tony Romo, Cowboys vs. Giants: Last week’s mess can only lead to better things you would think, plus this is usually a shootout. ‘Boys are 5-1 at home.

Sit

Michael Vick, Eagles at Dolphins: Somehow I see the Eagles winning this game too, but I don’t have faith in Vick finishing, Dolphins have gotten tough.

Dan Orlovsky, Colts at Ravens: Don’t laugh, some people thought his stats from last week were about to start a trend, they won’t!

Tim Tebow, Broncos vs. Bears: This is the most talented front 7 that he may have faced yet. Peppers, Urlacher and Briggs are a good showdown for Timmy.

Kevin Kolb, Cardinals vs. 49ers: Unless LaRod Stephens-Howling can do 70 yard screens all day, he is not worth it. 49ers have home field to play for still.

Andy Dalton, Bengals vs. Texans: Something else I’m sure I said this pre-season: “The Texans will actually have a good defense this year” If only I was always this smart!

Running Back

Start

Roy Helu, Redskins vs. Patriots: He did it against the Jets, so he proves he can bring it. Even Mike Shanahan can’t screw up this depth chart.

Ray Rice, Ravens vs. Colts: So does 200 yards vs. the Browns translate to 300 vs. the Colts? It just might, and he is the guy to do it.

Marshawn Lynch, Seahawks vs. Rams: Lynch vs. the 32nd ranked run defense? Even I believe in him now! Since when did he become the human highlight reel?

Maurice Jones-Drew, Jaguars vs. Buccaneers: How do you say ” MJD ” in Pakistan? The new owner has to love this super stud. Defenders bounce off of him.

Rashard Mendenhall, Steelers vs. Browns: Ray Rice got them for over 200, so Rashard is good for at least 100 and a TD, right?

Chris Johnson, Titans vs. Saints: Yep, I went with 6 here. CJ2K is back, but maybe too late? Play him now and dazzle your friends!

Sit

Cedric Benson, Bengals vs. Texans: The Falcons ground game had nothing for them, so could the Bengals? Way too risky, unless you have to play him.

Kevin Smith, Lions vs. Vikings: As good as he can be, he just can’t stay on the field, and at this time of the year, that’s crucial.

Beanie Wells, Cardinals vs. 49ers: He has been playing better, but this is a dangerous match-up.

Marion Barber, Bears at Broncos: With the passing game struggling so badly, teams know to focus on the run, and Barber tends to break down.

DeAngelo Williams, Panthers vs. Falcons: I knew last week he was a bad idea, seems like he always is when people get high on him.

Wide Receiver/ Tight End

Start

Vincent Jackson, Chargers vs. Bills: He is just a huge target, and his QB is doing his usual December thing. This match-up is not scary.

Brandon Marshall, Dolphins vs. Eagles: Every week, one WR goes big against Philly, so why not Marshall?

Roddy White, Falcons at Panthers: Still a great WR, and he is coming on of late. “Rowdy” could go for a couple of TDs here.

Antonio Brown, Steelers vs. Browns: In a “Brown vs. Brown” match-up I choose Brown. Alright, enough of being clever, Haden will be busy with Wallace, so Brown should be active.

Michael Crabtree, 49ers at Cardinals: QB Alex Smith seems to trust him more lately, and if the Niners go far in these playoffs, they need a vertical pass game.

Sit

DeSean Jackson, Eagles at Dolphins: Let’s face it, if you are still using Jackson every week, you probably don’t need this article anymore.

Dwayne Bowe, Chiefs at Jets: The Jets are much better at home, and the QB play is still up in the air for the Chiefs.

Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals vs. 49ers: If I don’t like the QB, how can I like the WR? Even if it is Fitz.

Miles Austin, Cowboys vs. Giants: If he finally does play, they will work him back slowly. The Cowboys have enough options still.

Lance Moore, Saints at Titans: 3 TDs in the last 2 games? This is typical Moore, who also trends with big let-downs. I think it’s let down time.

Well here it is friends. Good luck to everyone who is still alive or is going into the playoffs this week. If this is the end of your season, thank you so very much for joining me this season. NFL Week 13 Thoughts – Inside The Wheelhouse

December 06, 2011 By: Category: NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Andy Reid, DeSean JacksonLet’s take a look back at some of the things that stood out from Week 13 in the National Football League!

- R.I.P. to the Dream Team and farewell to Andy Reid & DeSean Jackson from Philadelphia. It’s time for a change of scenery for Philadelphia when it comes to their head coaching position and Andy Reid will easily find a job pretty quickly next season once this marriage comes to an end. As for DeSean Jackson the Eagles will be better without this prima donna of a player who hasn’t really completed ANYTHING.

- Marshawn Lynch has been an absolute beast the last couple of weeks for the Seahawks. He has been a great Fantasy player for anyone who took a chance on him for their fantasy team. I’ll be interested to watch if this is a fluke or if he is for real against some pretty hard rush defenses.

- The Titans continue to make things interesting in a very tight AFC Wild Card battle and Chris Johnson continues to play as if the season just started two weeks ago. I like the Titans chances in their division since the Texans really don’t appear to be that much of a powerhouse as they would be with a healthy Matt Schaub AND Andre Johnson. They could shock the world by season’s end.

- I’m starting to question if Ryan Fitzpatrick is a good quarterback and something the Bills could build their franchise around. Once the midway point of the season hit so did Ryan Fitzpatrick’s inaccuracy.

- I cannot get over the Kansas City Chiefs won in Week 13 thanks to Brian Urlacher tipping the Hail Mary pass to Dexter McCluster. That’s the only reason why the Chiefs scored a TD…unbelievable.

- Put a fork in Chicago and the 2011 season, you can’t lose your star QB & RB and still make the playoffs. But wackier things have happened…

- Miami is the team nobody wants to face now; they are playing with house money and seriously dangerous to face for ANY team in the NFL. I actually wouldn’t be shocked if they played the Green Bay Packers at this point and beat them.

- Oakland is not in Chicago Bears territory yet but they needed to be the Dolphins as they play Green Bay next week. They are not completely out of it yet but I do not like their chances especially with the way Tim Tebow has been playing lately.

- Speaking of which, Tim Tebow is 6-1 as a starter this season and the Broncos are leading the AFC west & currently the four seed in the AFC playoffs if the season ended today. Holy s***…

- With nothing much left to play for I would not be shocked if Adrian Peterson’s season is over. That’s not good for Fantasy owners but great for Vikings fans. Take the bad draft pick, rest up your franchise running back so nothing else happens to him and play for 2012 or at least mediocrity.

- We know New England’s offense is good but their defense suffers from the same thing the Packers currently suffer from and that’s just not being good. Had the Colts defense played slightly well we might have seen them win their first game of the season.

- Oh and for Jim Caldwell, there is no way he is brought back next season, unless they win their final games of the season from here on out of course.

- Pittsburgh is playing well but still inconsistent. I really don’t think they are the AFC powerhouse that their record shows. Still plenty of question marks with this team as we get closer to the season’s end but then again the same could be said for the other top AFC teams (New England, Baltimore and Houston).

- C’mon Cincy! You couldn’t have kept the dream alive for at least another week? Job well done this season but I was hoping you’d make things interesting in the playoffs. There is still hope but it appears there isn’t a lot of steam left in this team.

- Congrats to Cam Newton on breaking the single season recording for rushing touchdown’s by a Quarterback. Who saw this production coming at all from the rookie? If he keeps his ego in check he will be a future megastar for this league, but I still believe that ego check is a huge IF.

- There is nothing good to say about the Bucs right now. They are digressing as I expected but not as bad as they have this season. They needed this bump in the road to grow as a team, I’ll be keeping a close on their progress in 2012 and if this is a team still with potential for success.

- The New York Jets are the worst team currently making a run at the playoffs so far this season. The score doesn’t show it but they did not play well against the Washington Redskins at all. I still believe they make the playoffs but not sure if they can find that same magic from the last two seasons.

- I don’t know what to write about Washington. They are a team that continues to disappoint despite the amount of money the ownership continues to dump into it. When do you reach the point of just saying “maybe it’s time to reboot and start from scratch?” They might have to do that to save the Redskins.

- Houston goes into Week 13 with their 3rd string quarterback leading them the way for the rest of the year and wins against the team who had the best record in the NFC last season. Unbelievable for this team and their defense looked tremendous against a very good offense. I don’t know how much longer this will last with Andre Johnson hurt again but it’s a miracle run right now.

- I really am starting to believe that the Atlanta Falcons don’t make the playoffs. So much talent and not much to show for it, very shocked by their lack of success this year; this is not like the Philadelphia Eagles who rebuilt in free agency. This is a team that had talent and got better in the off-season, very disappointing for the ATL so far this season.

- Baltimore is still my pick to win the AFC Championship and be the Super Bowl representation. They are starting to click the last couple of weeks and proving to be a powerhouse of a team. They may be the only consistent team in the AFC alongside the Patriots right now.

- You know you are having a bad day when your top rusher is also your top receiver. The only problem was Peyton Hillis only had one reception for 52 yards. Ouch.

- Who would’ve ever thought a head coach would lose a game for his team by icing his OWN kicker. Terrible job by Jason Garrett and it cost the Cowboys a victory & what would lead to a commanding lead in the NFC East with just weeks to go and playing the Giants, bad job by the Cowboys in Week 13.

- Hey look, Kevin Kolb does know how to win!

- San Francisco blows out the Rams and in the process captures the NFC West Division Championship and playoff spot all in the same game. The Niners are back in the playoffs and all seems right (for now) for San Francisco. I’m still not sold on them being an NFC powerhouse right now, they are very similar to the success the Houston Texans have had this year. They don’t scare you offensively, they have a great defense and they get the win on Sunday & that’s all that matters.

- Where do you go from here to improve this St. Louis Rams team? Just a horrible season and things continue to not look so bright for the Rams.

- Green Bay and the New York Football Giants had the game of the week & possibly the game of the season in Week 13. It had a playoff type feel and was a great game played by two great teams. Green Bay proved they can play against great teams & get the “W” while the Giants proved they can hang with the “big dogs.” I’ll be interested to see where the Giants go from here and if they can really take it to Dallas next week.

- Aaron Rodgers will hands down be the NFL MVP. The victory in Week 13 also clinched the NFC North Division and of course a playoff spot. 12-0 is pretty big and it’s only a matter of time when the whispers of an undefeated season get louder. I wonder how well Green Bay can take this heat.

- New Orleans is looking very dangerous as the season closes out. Two great convincing wins over the Giants and Lions is proving that the Saints will be the #1 foe for the Packers in the NFC this season. The Saints are for real and can very easily knock the Packers off their current pedestal.

- I’m starting to think the Lions don’t make the playoffs this season; they have hit a real rough patch the last couple of weeks and look like they are hitting a learning curve. If they don’t get it done this season they will be an interesting team to watch next season. Real rough times for Detroit after starting the season 5-0 and going 2-5 since.

- Join me in welcoming back the San Diego Chargers to the NFL. Granted it was the Jacksonville Jaguars but lets face it, if the Chargers played this season like they did on Monday Night it might be a different story for the Chargers & for Norv Turner. It was if the Chargers stepped back into time to play like we are used to seeing them.

NFL Week 10 Thoughts – Inside The Wheelhouse

November 15, 2011 By: Category: NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Norv TurnerLet’s take a look back at some of the things that stood out from Week 10 in the National Football League!

- I truly thought the Oakland Raiders were on the verge of sailing away from the AFC West. I was wrong and even more wrong about the way the AFC West could go the rest of the year. Literally ANYONE could be playing in the playoffs come January. Right now, you got to go with the Raiders as the favorites, especially if Carson Palmer can play like that every week.

- San Diego for another week has given up on Norv Turner. I predicted on The Wheelhouse that they would be in last in the AFC West come season’s end and I will hold onto that prediction.

- New Orleans was supposed to be another NFC juggernaut of a team that would compete with Green Bay. The last couple of weeks they have been anything but despite getting a couple wins here & there. New Orleans went from a solid #2 team in the NFC to the #3 team and still slipping.

- 4th and inches on your own 29? C’mon Atlanta. That may have been your only chance at the NFC South now. Punt the ball and believe in your defense.

- The Steelers are now the best team in the AFC North with a big divisional win against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite their successes through ten weeks this season, I just don’t see them as a strong team when it’s time to play January football.

- Despite the loss I have loved everything the Bengals have done this season. They are playing with house money and I hope they shake things up a bit in the AFC & the AFC North for the rest of this season. I don’t believe they have “fell off” quite yet.

- The St. Louis Rams defeat the Cleveland Browns in a snooze fest. College football fans of the “red river rivalry” were definitely happy for this one; everyone else could have cared less. No need to muff a 22 yard field goal with the game on the line either.

- The Dallas Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC East no matter what the standings are currently saying. They are playing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball and in my opinion is the 4th best team in the NFC as of right now. New York: watch out.

- Farewell to the Buffalo Bills once again. I hope they at least finish the year 8-8.

- The Jags get the victory in Indianapolis, but yet again so did the high school junior varsity team before this one as well.

- Six more losses till Andrew Luck! And they now have a 2 game lead in the “Suck For Luck” standings! Go Colts!

- Tim Tebow completed 2 passes. Yet the Broncos won. He is now 3-1 as a starter so far this season. Enough said.

- Kansas City could have easily made a great comeback in the AFC West and taken over this division. They have failed to do so and look like a team that should compete for last place. I can’t believe I’m going to say this but the Raiders biggest competition may actually be the Denver Broncos now.

- Miami wins its 2nd game of the season and clearly does not want Andrew Luck quarterbacking for them next season. They must have been motivated after they saw the new Miami Marlins uniforms.

- I wonder if the Washington Redskins can make a little noise in this “suck for luck
campaign; also so much for “making the playoffs,” eh Rex Grossman?

- John Skelton needs to be the starter in Arizona. He is making Larry Fitzgerald play like Larry Fitzgerald again, something Kevin Kolb clearly couldn’t do. I’m starting to believe that the Kevin Kolb trade with the Philadelphia Eagles may actually go down in infamy…

- “The Dream Team” is now 3-6 on the season. One more loss for the Eagles and it will be time to stick a fork in em.

- Houston is the best team in the AFC as of right now in Week 10. Due to their inconsistency that may all change next week but as of right now they are playing like potential AFC Champions. This is team is clicking and should be with the talent & the schedule they have. Had Arian Foster been healthy all season I believe he would be NFL MVP material (sorry Aaron).

- I think we can stick a fork in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season. I predicted they would take a step back from their success last season and they have thus far. Josh Freeman has struggled as of late but it’s a good kind of struggle as I look for him to actually be franchise quarterback material for the Bucs.

- Welcome back to the NFL Chris Johnson and welcome back to the Titans to still being in the run for some playoff contention.

- This was the worst game all season for Cam Newton and I think we can contribute that to his shoulder injury. If the injury is even slightly serious I think the Panthers should shut the rookie down for the year & build off of his successes for this season. Too soon to tell but they shouldn’t play with fire when it comes to their quarterback investment.

- Marshawn Lynch has been pretty amazing to watch the last two weeks and he had a tremendous game against an always tough Ravens defense. Lynch’s success on the field is what helped carry the Seahawks to victory in this one.

- Baltimore has decided to switch roles with the Houston Texans and become the most inconsistent team in the NFL. Had the Ravens played well when they should have this is a team that could be atop the AFC. While they play great against the good teams they never seem to be able to put away the teams below .500. Baltimore needs to turn it around very quickly.

- Man have the Detroit Lions taken a fall from grace the last couple of weeks or what? They have not played great Football since they started the season 5-0 and since losing to San Francisco in Week 6 they have gone 1-3 in their four other games. This was a game they needed to prove to the league that they are for real and sadly failed. Stafford has also not been the same since his injury a couple weeks ago, case in point…4 INTs.

- Chicago is the team that has quietly gotten right back into the forefront of the NFC and is poised for a playoff push as the season starts to whine down. I have never been a big Bears fan because they don’t play “convincing football.” Despite all that they still get the “W” and are in contention in the NFC, don’t count this team out.

- If you are like me there are no more questions that should be asked of this 49ers team. Plain and simple, they are for real.

- A win for the Giants and they could have been cemented as a team that is the 2nd best team in the NFC. With the loss instead they are now possibly peddling backwards as the Cowboys continue to make a charge down in the NFC East. The East is becoming to shape up as a two dog race and I’m not sure if the Giants can hang with “Big D.”

- Don’t count out the Patriots yet as they get the big win against the Jets in the Meadowlands. The Patriots get the win at the right time as they now will have the easiest schedule left to be played in the NFL for the rest of this season. The success of the Patriots from here on out is in their own hands and while they are back in the saddle yet again, I’m not sold on the consistency they will have for the rest of the season just yet.

- The Jets needed this win and they failed to get the job done. Right now I believe the Jets are on the outside looking in when it comes to the AFC Playoffs. While it’s only Week 10, they needed this win pretty badly in the grand scheme of things for their 2011 campaign.

- Green Bay improves to 9-0 on the season and gets their first real convincing win this year by holding Minnesota to 7 points and posting 45 on Monday Night. For most of the season Green Bay has put up huge numbers on the offensive side of the ball but the defense had a tough time holding down their opponents. Granted it was the Minnesota Vikings but if Green Bay can continue this trend they may be a very dangerous team for the rest of the year.

NFL Week 9 Thoughts – Inside The Wheelhouse

November 08, 2011 By: Category: NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Eli Manning New England PatriotsLet’s take a look back at some of the things that stood out from Week 9 in the National Football League!

- First off let me apologize to everyone here on the Camel Clutch Blog for not having a blog for Week 8 last week. I was unfortunately without power from Saturday October 29th till about Thursday November 4th which meant I didn’t watch a lick of Football so writing a blog on Week 8 would be pointless. Thankfully though I was able to watch all of Week 9!

- The early games for Week 9 were pretty dreadful to watch, none of the matchups lived up to the potential (Saints/Bucs & Jets/Bills) but thankfully the afternoon & evening games saved Week 9 from being in the Week 6 & 7 zones.

- By the looks of the way the Jets are celebrating their victory over the Bills this past Sunday you’d figure they just won the Super Bowl or at least AFC East. It was a big win as they are now in a three-way tie for the AFC East but the true test is in Week 10 against New England. Hold your horses on the success of the Jets just yet.

- This appears to be the end of the success for the Bills. Sad to see it but they are an 8-8 team at best. I hope they continue to be a pesky foe for the Jets & Pats though.

- Sure it was a victory against the Seattle Seahawks but it looks like the Dallas Cowboys may be onto something right now with the victory in Week 9. If Dez Bryant can breakout this is a dangerous team.

- Hey look Marshawn Lynch remembered how to play Football!

- Atlanta gets a victory over Indianapolis as did the Junior Varsity team who was on the field against the Colts prior to this game. Not a big victory for the ATL but a win is a win, not sure if Atlanta is NFC Champion material anymore.

- Indianapolis looks to make it 10 straight in their “Suck for Luck” campaign this season next week!

- The Miami Dolphins win on Sunday over the Chiefs but probably piss off their fan base in the process as the “Suck for Luck” days appear to be over in Miami. Reggie Bush must have been so excited that Kim K. was single again that he decided to play football on Sunday.

- Kansas City was looking like a sleeper in the AFC West until Week 9; I think we get what we get with the Chiefs for this season. Could they still win the division? I guess so, but it won’t be much longer for them to be competitive this season.

- New Orleans gets a big victory over the Bucs and does so in a pretty convincing fashion. Here comes the start of the NOLA just pulling away in the NFC South.

- Ya think the Texans are inconsistent? Look at this Bucs team! They could be playoff bound if they just played consistent!

- I don’t know what to make of when it comes to this San Francisco 49ers team, I really don’t. I want to take them seriously at 7-1 but I can’t when Alex Smith is the QB. I still believe it’s only a matter of time before we get the Alex Smith we know and love.

- It’s a shame that this Redskins team is no longer competitive. They should have done what the Colts did and just sucked for luck.

- There is the Texans team we expect on a week-to-week basis. This is a first round bye team if they can get everything together simply because of their division. Good win for them in Week 9 but I still wonder if it continues.

- Cleveland please say goodbye to Peyton Hillis. They should have traded him when he had more value.

- The Bengals are for real and I love it. They can easily pull a sneak attack on the Steelers & Ravens in the AFC North if they continue to play this well.

- Tim Tebow is now 3-2 as a starter and 2-0 on the season. Enough said. Keep him as the starting quarterback.

- Carson Palmer looked good in Week 9 but then again it was against the Denver Broncos. I really expect the Raiders to go on a losing streak for a while here. They were a good story but unfortunately will have a bad ending.

- The New York Giants are for real. Let’s stop the discussion here. They very well may be the #2 team in the NFC.

- Amazing how that Giants/Patriots game in Week 9 paralleled the Super Bowl 42 game, I believe the Pats are in deep trouble right now.

- Arizona beats St. Louis and wins their 2nd game of the season. Nothing else of note from this one except the Cards may be better without Kevin Kolb after all.

- Green Bay defeats San Diego in a great game in Week 9. The Packers could be a much more dominating team if their defense catches up to their offense. They are 8-0 and still the top favorite in the NFC, but they could pull away from the bunch if their defense steps up for the rest of this season.

- Baltimore gets a big victory over the Steelers and sweeps them in the AFC North season series for this season. My Super Bowl pick for the AFC continues to look good while the Steelers are competitively inconsistent.

- The Ravens need Joe Flacco to do what he did in Week 9. He looked like a franchise quarterback against a great Steelers defense.

- In a battle of turning point games in Week 9 the Chicago Bears defeated the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night in a big win. This game really means a lot to both these teams as it could define the rest of their 2011 season. The victory puts the Bears in hunting distance of the Detroit Lions while the Philadelphia Eagles are hanging onto this season & a hopeful playoff berth. Big win for Chicago in this one and if Philly wants to stay competitive they need to win badly in Week 10.

NFL Week 7 Thoughts – Inside The Wheelhouse

October 26, 2011 By: Category: NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Arian FosterLet’s take a look back at some of the things that stood out from Week 7 in the National Football League!

- If the NFL wanted to test your “fandom” for the great sport then this was the Week to do it as there were very little interesting matchups and games that weren’t that exciting or interesting at all. It’s safe to say that at this point in the season; this was the worst week for the NFL.

- Case in point the Browns defeated the Seahawks in a snooze fest this past week. Nothing really interesting of note here as this probably was the worst game of the entire NFL “docket” this past Sunday. From a Fantasy standpoint I would have appreciated the Marshawn Lynch injury announcement before the game and not after it!

- Is this the start of the slide for the Detroit Lions? Matthew Stafford is injured and they have had 2 straight losses. Will be very interesting to see how they bounce back after this.

- The Atlanta Falcons get their biggest victory of the season over the Detroit Lions in Week 7 and at Ford Field. I believe this could be the start of the turn around for the Falcons in the wide open yet very competitive NFC South division.

- This is the Houston Texans team many of us believe actually exist within the confines of their roster as they destroyed the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The Texans ran all over on the Titans as both Arian Foster AND Ben Tate rushed for over 100 yards. If they can play like this on a consistent basis this is a first round bye team, of course with the Texans that can all change next week.

- Seriously, what is up with Chris Johnson? Is he a flash in the pan?

- Green Bay remains unbeaten despite having Minnesota make a run for it throughout the entire game. The Packers pass defense is horrible and it will take a good passing game to put the “L” into the Packers record. This team is really, really good and needs to work on that pass defense in the bye week as they begin their stretch towards the playoffs.

- It’s too bad that Christian Ponder’s spotlight was stolen from Tim Tebow’s performance. Ponder looked like a future All-Pro QB in his first game. I hope he continues to well in Minnesota, looks like a great player to be in the NFL.

- I don’t care what the haters may say, he may not throw like an NFL Quarterback, he may not look like an NFL Quarterback but for three minutes Tim Tebow brought the Broncos back and led them to a shocking 18-15 win over the Dolphins. Whether you like him or not, just give the kid credit for the Week 7 win.

- Miami just needs to give up the season and suck as much as they can for Andrew Luck. I think the white flag on the 2011-2012 campaign will be worth it for the Fins.

- What was Phillip Rivers thinking during that final 2 minute drive against the Jets? He throws it out of bounds on 4th down? Maybe he isn’t the quarterback we always thought he was…

- As much as I hate to admit it, looks like the win for the Jets may be the start for a turn around on this season. I really believe the Jets are starting to make a mid-season push for the playoffs; this team is good…when they want to be.

- One minute the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look like a team that could compete with the New Orleans Saints for the NFC South Division crown and the next minute they lose a tough game to the Chicago Bears. As much as I enjoy the Tampa Bay Bucs I believe this is going to be a similar decline like the Lions, I still believe they miss the playoffs in 2011.

- For the second straight season the Chicago Bears get victories that make you go, how did they do that? Quite simply…the defense and Matt Forte keep this team alive and no one else. Matt Forte is an MVP frontrunner if he had the record of the Packers or Patriots.

- No more questions, he’s got the answer, Cam Newton is for real.

- Farewell to the Washington Redskins being competitive this season, at least be like the Bills and be a “pesky” opponent for your division rivals will ya?

- I really like what’s going on with the Kansas City Chiefs right now, I know it’s crazy to say but they are sneaking up in the AFC West. Don’t count them out yet.

- Do you think the Raiders fans are truly excited they gave up two first round picks for a 9 year veteran quarterback who has a bad knee and possibly a bum shoulder? I doubt Carson Palmer can truly be a savior for the Raider nation.

- Pittsburgh gets a victory over the Cardinals but I’m still not sold they are a playoff team. They have played average at best and will be tested pretty well in Week 8 when they take on the Patriots. That will be the test for the Steelers and then we can decide on what type of team they really are

- Hey Arizona, stop starting Kevin Kolb. He’s not the guy.

- DeMarco Murray was damn right good in Week 7 but he’s not the savior in Big D yet and he’s not the next Emmitt Smith yet. It’s one game, calm down Dallas. How come every time a new player has a good game when they get their first start (*cough* Tony Romo *cough*) Big D thinks they have the 2nd coming of a dynasty. Calm the heck down.

- I feel bad for the Rams, really thought they’d be good this season. Suck for…um…who else is in the draft besides Andrew Luck?

- The New Orleans Saints scored 62 points on the Colts. What else should I say about that?

- I believe the Colts will definitely pick Andrew Luck if they can in the 2012 NFL Draft and have him be a backup behind Peyton Manning. They won’t trade Manning but they will draft Luck, who better to have mentor a young QB with a ton of talent and potential then Peyton Manning?

- Props to the Jacksonville Jaguars for playing a terrific game against the Baltimore Ravens and playing with purpose despite their record. Really like what I saw in Jacksonville and hope they can use it positively for the rest of the season.

- Baltimore is still my AFC Super Bowl pick despite losing a game they should’ve won. There clearly is now “should’ve wins” in the NFL and the Ravens need to play like a Championship caliber team. That was not what they showed today at all.

NFL Week 5 Thoughts – Inside The Wheelhouse

October 11, 2011 By: Category: NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

fred jacksonLet’s take a look back at some of the things that stood out from Week 4 in the National Football League!

- How warm is that hot seat in Philly right now? The self proclaimed “dream team” now falls to 1-4 on the season and the Eagles are one more straight loss away from crisis time in Philadelphia to hit. If the Eagles lose three more games at all for the rest of the season, making a grand total of seven losses, they will need a miracle to then make the playoffs. Nobody saw this team performance the way they have so far this season.

- The Buffalo Bills are the most surprising 4-1 team in the NFL and had they played well against a not so good Bengals team last week they would be one of the surprising unbeatens. That is not the case and the Bills are continuing to poise themselves for a playoff run. I wonder how much longer Cinderella’s slipper is on the foot of the team in Buffalo.

- I could have sworn I saw the Colts winning on Sunday and in grand fashion, only to lose to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5. Looks like they on the “suck for Luck” train.

- At one point Adrian Peterson was on pace for 12 rushing touchdowns on Sunday as he scored three rushing TDs all in the first quarter against the Arizona Cardinals. The Vikings return to glory with their first win of the season over a really bad Arizona team.

- How bad of a trade is that Philadelphia sending Kevin Kolb to Arizona deal now? Wow Kolb continues to look like he just doesn’t have it.

- The Giants have the greatest of opportunities to pull away even further in the NFC East this week with an easy game against the Seahawks and fail to do so. “Big Blue” makes too many mistakes in this one costing them a sure-win game that could have kept them in line with the Redskins heading into Week 6. Tough loss for the Giants as I wonder if this is the beginning of their slide this season.

- Ben Roethlisberger‘s foot looked completely fine in Week 5 as he threw for 5 Touchdown passes en-route to a big victory over Tennessee on Sunday. I guess we were a little too early to the “demise of the Steelers” party we were throwing.

- Tennessee could have made this a statement game by proving that they are a team to look out for this season but they fail to do such in Week 5. Maybe the loss of Kenny Britt and the lack of dominance from Chris Johnson continue to truly affect the way the offense plays and that what we saw the first four weeks may have just been some sort of a mirage of a football team.

- It’s official. The Carolina Panthers are that pesky last place team nobody wants to play in the NFL as they almost beat the Saints in Week 5. They truly are an impressive team and something to look out for in a couple of years. I am truly shocked by Cam Newton‘s success thus far.

- With this win on Sunday, the New Orleans Saints now join Green Bay and San Francisco as teams starting to pull away from the rest of the NFC pack. Not shocked by this one at all.

- Most surprising 3-2 team in Football right now? The Cincinnati Bengals of course! I don’t know how they keep doing it, but they do. I’ll be interested how they play against the rest of their division rivals. At least they have something to work off of for their future.

- Once again, my apologies for predicting the demise of Maurice Jones-Drew this season. He has been a top 3 rusher all this season so far and has been very durable. I like what’s cooking in Jacksonville right now with Blaine Gabbert at the helm. They are still a ways off but they are getting their in putting the right pieces to their team.

- Oakland, coming off of the sudden loss of their iconic owner Al Davis, shocks the Texans in their house to improve to 3-2 on the season. This Raiders team isn’t that far behind in the AFC West standings right now and are starting to show me that they very well could be playoff bound this season.

- Houston continues to play like Houston, inconsistent. This is a team that could easily slide into a First Round bye like I have said before in these blogs but they continue to somehow find a way not too. They are still playoff bound with the division they are in, but they need to show that they are a force in the AFC South in the next couple of weeks of the Texans will be the AFC’s version of the 2010 NFC West.

- Um, I don’t know if you realize this, but the San Francisco 49ers are back. They put a whoopin’ on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that is pretty good, and do it in decisive fashion winning by 45 points. Talk about the surprise team of the NFL right now. Watch out NFC rivals, this may be a team you will have to deal with in the playoffs this season.

- San Diego wins one against Denver to improve to 4-1. Similar to the Houston Texans, they are a team that can easily slide into a first round bye if they play like this against their division rivals week-after-week. The Chargers may start feeling the pressure of teams like the Raiders though as they are not too far done their necks. I’ll be interested to see how San Diego plays in some of their upcoming matchups, most notably with the Packers.

- New England continues to show their AFC East dominance and that the loss they suffered to the Bills may just be a fluke after all. They beat their biggest rival at home and do it in a fashion that was quite surprising as Benjarvius Green-Ellis decides to return to the NFL as he explodes for 136 rushing yards on 27 carries on the way to score 2 rushing touchdowns, very impressive for a guy being written off by Stevan Ridley rumors.

- The Jets are now 2-3 on the season and starting to sweat it out a little more as they are not looking like the team we have seen on the field the last two seasons. They had a tough last three games against Oakland, Baltimore and New England, three games that didn’t see a single “W” in the column. The Jets need to bounce back in their next game or the alarm will sound very loudly in New York.

- A lot of people, including myself, saw the Atlanta Falcons as a perennial favorite to be an NFC representative in this year’s Super Bowl, now the Falcons will be lucky to just make the playoffs right now as a Sunday night loss against Green Bay now puts them at 2-3. They have struggled against decent NFC teams which is not good for a team being compared to the Rams of the early 2000′s with the show they’d put on the turf.

- The Green Bay Packers improve to 5-0 and Aaron Rodgers is looking like an early favorite for the MVP award as he has had a QB rating over 100+ each game this season. He looked calm, cool and collect in Atlanta on Sunday night despite being down by two touchdowns’ early on. This kid has confidence and confidence that will help the Packers for years to come, big win for Green Bay as the season continues on.

- The Detroit Lions now joins the Green Bay Packers as the final two unbeatens in the NFL. Which if you told me these two years ago I would have guessed that they were one of the two final teams not to win yet. What a turn around season for the Lions and their fans. I predicted last season on The Wheelhouse that the Packers & Lions will be a pretty good rivalry soon and it appears I will be right on this one.

- After another loss for the Bears you have to begin to wonder…who will be out of Chicago first, Lovie Smith or Jay Cutler? Think about it, I feel like that is a question that will be asked during the off-season.

The Shark’s Fantasy Football Week 5 Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

October 07, 2011 By: Category: Fantasy Football, NFL | NCAA Football, Sports

Matt SchaubHow are we looking fantasy owners? Where is your team standing after 4 weeks? Are you a Detroit Lion or an Indianapolis Colt? Well it is still early yet, so get reading and let’s go!

With this being the 5th week of the NFL season it is now time for bye weeks, which always tests fantasy owners. You may have thought in August that it was a better idea to get the top defense in the 7th round, but some thought of getting good bench players. Here is where that will shine through.

No worries for the true fantasy player, plenty of players are in the vault, or maybe even in the waiver wires as we will check later. So let’s get down to business as I bring you this week’s version of Start ‘Em/ Sit ‘Em. Good luck in week 5.

Quarterback

Start

Matt Ryan, Falcons vs. Packers: I don’t like many QBs to shine against the Packers, but when Matt Ryan is at home, all bets are on! Yes, we know he has struggled this season, but in his last home game he was sizzling, tossing 4 TD passes. The Pack always makes it a shootout, so no reason why Ryan won’t get his here.

Eli Manning, Giants vs. Seahawks: Eli stayed hot last week and rallied his team back with a good second half. The Seahawks offer very little on the road so I see Manning staying hot this week, especially as his WRs get healthier.

Kevin Kolb, Cardinals at Vikings: Not that I am the biggest Kolb fan, but the Vikings are not really stopping anyone lately. Also it’s the return of Larry Fitzgerald to his childhood home, where he was a ball boy for the Vikes. This should be a good one for Kolb.

Sit

Matt Hasselbeck, Titans at Steelers: Matt has come back to life this year and has been real good, but something about the Steelers at home, with or without James Harrison. Titans have looked good this year, but this is way too tough of a road game to trust them here.

Matt Schaub, Texans vs. Raiders: It’s a simple combination of no Andre Johnson, and being able to play Arian Foster against a Raider run defense that isn’t all that special. Shaub may not have to be too great to get the Texans out of this one, so I can’t expect much.

Jay Cutler, Bears at Lions: I don’t know why, but I thought the Bears may have had a good chance of pulling off the upset this week, then I looked further. Cutler does tend to struggle against teams that bring heat up the middle, and the Lions defense has big bodies up front. The Bears are very average right now on many levels, and the Lions should be pumped up for Monday night.

Running Back

Start

Ryan Mathews, Chargers at Broncos: He just keeps getting better each week, and the Broncos do very little impressive on defense. With Mathews and back mate Mike Tolbert playing so good it has taken the heat off of Philip Rivers to do it all, and it is helping.

Arian Foster, Texans vs. Raiders: I know, “duh”! Foster proved that when healthy he is the best all around back in this league, don’t sleep on it.

Fred Jackson, Bills vs. Eagles: Until the Eagles show me they can stop any RB at all, I will continue to advise you to use them. Jackson has been a big part of the Bills hot start, and win or lose this week, he should still get his.

Sit

Frank Gore, 49ers vs. Buccaneers: It may be a long shot, but Gore still is not 100 percent, and the Bucs are playing pretty good defense. They may have to do more passing in this one, so I don’t feel so good about Gore.

Rashard Mendenhall, Steelers vs. Titans: In what should be a decent defensive battle, we don’t like Mendenhall at all. He may be injured, and last week Isaac Redman actually looked better, which may help him steal some carries from the slowed Mendenhall.

Beanie Wells, Cardinals at Vikings: The Vikes still play a decent run defense, plus they are home, which has to mean something, right?

Wide Receiver/ Tight End

Start

Steve Smith, Panthers vs. Saints: The word is out, Steve Smith is back. Not only is he back, but it seems the tougher the team out there the better he plays. This match will be filled with all out air bombs, and Smith will get tons of chances. If QB Cam Newton stays hot, Smith will go nuts here.

Eric Decker, Broncos vs. Chargers: If you are not paying attention, you are missing one of the better new WRs in the league. Decker dropped a pair of TDs on the Packers last week, and while QB Kyle Orton likes Brandon Lloyd, he seems to love Decker for the TDs, and that’s good enough for me. Hey, I have him in 3 leagues!

DeSean Jackson, Eagles at Bills: QB Mike Vick had strong words for the media after the Eagles fell to 1-3. Usually when the Birds fall on hard times they come out bombing, and Jackson may be the best option here. Philly will be tough this week, so I wonder if the Bills have guys that can run with Jackson?

Sit

A.J. Green, Bengals at Jaguars: More people are hot on Green and although he’s good, this may be a week to look elsewhere. The Jaguars play a pretty good pass defense, and QB Andy Dalton has had a rough go of it the last few weeks.

Stevie Johnson, Saints at Panthers: I am not sold on his return, and I think you can do better. Colston was back in the line-up last week, but it mattered very little as he had just one grab. Not ready for your starting spot yet.

Stevie Johnson, Bills vs. Eagles: The Eagles do have a physical secondary, and that may hurt the smaller Johnson. Teams are learning he is the best option in Buffalo, and he is finding less room of late.

Waiver Wire

Yes it is time to go to the bins and find some guys worth a look. It is still early enough to steal a guy that can make a difference, maybe one of these:

Stevan Ridley, RB, Patriots: Bill Belichick has seemingly done it again. He finds a guy not many have heard of and turns into a production guy on his prime time team. Much like Danny Woodhead last year, he is small and quick and has a nose for the big explosive run.

Isaac Redman, RB, Steelers: Even if Mendenhall is healthy, Redman has the chance to see more playing time. He looked decent when being called upon last week against Houston, and if he can produce, he will get more chances.

Ryan Torain, RB, Redskins: A bye week this week may make you forget, but don’t. He was the best Redskins runner last year, and seems to be back healthy. Although head coach Mike Shanahan changes starting RBs like many change underwear, you should still grab Torain.

Justin Forsett, RB, Seahawks: The numbers may still not be there, but I have seen Forsett get a bit more involved, plus Marshawn Lynch just isn’t the premier back we all though he would be. Forsett can be more active very soon, and you may want to be ready for him.

Texans defense: These guys get sacks, and the schedule may not be as tough as we thought. Add Houston and start them per opponent and you may be pleased.

Arnelious Benn, WR, Buccaneers: Last years sensation Mike Williams has done very little this year, and Benn seems to be the all around better target right now. Yes they serve better as a running team, but if they find the air game, this guy will be in front of it.

So once again fans here we go. Another week, and more great advice for you to read on, and hopefully it pays off. I will be busy this week getting my teams in gear, so you should too. Good luck everyone.
