A look into the WWE crystal ball following WrestleMania 29 shows a big matchup featuring two of the biggest stars in pro wrestling today. Current plans are set to feature the Hollywood star vs. the former UFC champion in what could be the biggest match of 2014.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that plans are motion to pit the two biggest ratings grabbers in the WWE in a match at next year’s WrestleMania. Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock is on the books and the two big men will collide at some point in  distant WWE future.

The match is a natural and was reported last year to be the working main-event for this year’s WrestleMania event. It was speculated later that due to the high buyrate Cena vs. The Rock did last year, the company opted to play it safe and go with the rematch, scrapping old plans. Once the dust settles it would appear that creative will be going back to that well.

A Rock vs. Brock match would be huge. I could even argue that both men are the two biggest stars in pro wrestling today. A look at the ratings they bring in along with buyrates of their matches would bolster that sentiment. Now where they will be at the time of the match is up to conjecture but at this point it would appear that the WWE has a goldmine on its hands.

The match crosses over to so many levels that it could potentially do record business. In addition to the current base of pro wrestling fans, you’ll have non-fans who know The Rock and Brock Lesnar from movies, UFC, and/or Hollywood that will surely be attracted to the superstar event. It is rare that this kind of a match falls into the laps of WWE creative but they have really set themselves up for a blockbuster.

Of course it isn’t the first time Rock and Brock have wrestled each other. They wrestled each other in a memorable SummerSlam bout many years ago. Most point to this match as the day Brock officially received the passing of the torch from the biggest star at that time in the WWE. The match was very good, the rivalry was intense, and I am excited to see what they can pull off years later.

The working plan right now is to have the match at WrestleMania 30. Some have speculated it could come as soon as SummerSlam. As with all of the big matches in recent years, the timing will depend on The Rock’s schedule. The Rock’s commited to WrestleMania 30 and right now that is all that is known.  Getting him on SummerSlam could be tricky but not impossible.

I still think that a Rock and John Cena vs. Brock and Punk match is going to happen at some point. It makes a ton of sense and would be a great way to set the plate of the eventual Rock vs. Brock singles match. I suspect they could go in this direction for SummerSlam and set up the big singles match for WrestleMania 30 with Lesnar laying out Rock until then. The tag team match just makes a lot of sense and could do big business on a non-Mania event.

The plans would indicate to me that any kind of a planned Brock Lesnar babyface turn won’t happen in the near future. Some have speculated that Brock could turn babyface as soon as WrestleMania and feud with CM Punk and Paul Heyman. I suppose the WWE could always go with a heel Rock but I don’t see it happening (as much as I’d love to).

My hunch all along was a Brock turn but that probably isn’t going to happen with this direction.
