The WWE is at the start of a new era in history with its current youth movement. Several stars appear destined for big things in the WWE, but how many will truly live up to the potential expected by the office and more importantly, the fans?
[adinserter name=”366 left”]It is truly an exciting time to be a WWE fan. For the first time in almost ten years, there is a new era of stars being ushered in, some on the verge of breaking out, others currently enjoying success at the next level. The theme of WrestleMania 31 appeared to be a changing of the guard but as we all know, rarely do these projects stay on course in the WWE.
Let’s take a look at some of these stars on the cusp of greatness and predict where they will be a year from now based on WWE booking history and of course their own talents.
Bray Wyatt – I was inspired by this blog after a Twitter exchange over Bray Wyatt. Bray is the darling of fans on social media with some ready to induct him into the Hall of Fame. I will repeat what I said on Twitter and I know I am in the minority here, but I just don’t see a sustainable character here. I think Bray’s character is great but it isn’t something I could see several years now as the top babyface star in the WWE. I like his work a lot but can you really see little kids holding Bray up as their hero in a few years? This isn’t a knock on Bray now as I really enjoy what he’s doing but more an analysis on his future. I don’t think it’s nearly as bright as most do.
Roman Reigns – Before Bray came along it was Roman that was picked to be the heir apparent to the top WWE spot. Unlike Wyatt I think Reigns is a sustainable character and I think he possesses a lot of the qualities expected from a top guy. He’s got a very marketable look and has already drastically improved in the ring over the last year. I can see this guy headlining WrestleMania 35-40 before anyone else on this list.
Cesaro – Cesaro has caught fire lately after winning fans over with fantastic television matches against John Cena and Randy Orton. Cesaro won the coveted Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal which is a referendum on his future. Unfortunately those referendums don’t always play out the way they were intended. See Dolph Ziggler and Damien Sandow. I like Cesaro a lot and I don’t know if there is anyone better than him and Daniel Bryan in the ring. Beyond that I’ll tell you what has really impressed me lately. His appearances on recent WWE Network documentaries reveal a whole different side to him. A side I thought never existed. He can talk and I think he can cut a good promo if given the opportunity. Will he headline a WrestleMania? I am on the fence with this one. He isn’t typically the kind of a guy that the WWE invest in over a long period of time but the talent is there and then some.
Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins – For space sake I thought I would lump these two guys in together. Remember when The Shield debuted and Ambrose was the hottest heel since Roddy Piper? He has simmered down quite a bit over the last few months while Rollins has turned into the spokesperson for the team. I think Rollins has more marketability over time than Ambrose so I tend to lean more Rollins having the better WWE career than Ambrose. That said, Ambrose can talk when given the chance and if they decide to give him the microphone again he could talk himself right into one of those top spots.
[adinserter name=”366 right”]Daniel Bryan – Is the Yes Movement a flash in the pan or is he here to stay? It’s a real tough question because I think the talent is there but I still question the WWE’s commitment to him. I still get the impression that the WWE aren’t as committed to him as most hoped they would be by now. I think Bryan will be one of those guys like Chris Jericho who finds himself all over the card throughout his WWE career which isn’t a bad career to have. I just don’t see him keeping this place on the cards for more than a few months and that will be by no fault of his own.
