I guess one more prediction won’t hurt anyone. And it’s about – hold your breath – Royal Rumble and the road to WrestlemMania.
Question: Come Rumble, will Punk retain or not?
[adinserter name=”366 left”]Answer (1): Gee, I don’t know. He’s going one on one with the great one.
Answer (2): He should retain and hold the title for 1000 days!!!
Answer (3): But why should a part-timer win?
The answers have been more or less in favour of the Rock though in their hearts nobody wants it to happen.
And it won’t! That is if you ask me.
And that’s got nothing to do with the fact that the Rock is a part timer. What it has got to do with is the fact that there are a lot of loose ends to tie up and a Rock victory just would leave them still loose.
The popular prediction is that Rock would win the title and clash against Cena at Wrestlemania for a ‘Twice in a Lifetime’ cause that’s why Cena is part of the Rumble. Wrong.
Cena is part of the Rumble cause he is going to be the WWE champion come Wrestlemania. But that won’t be by defeating the Rock. Oh no! That would be by defeating CM Punk. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you heard it first from me. Come Wrestlemania, Cena is going head to toe with CM Punk!
Here’s why. If Rock wins, that’d solve only Rock vs Cena. It doesn’t solve what’s next for Punk. It doesn’t solve the whole point of having a championship match.
Cena vs Rock is more of a grudge match – you don’t need a Championship stipulation for that – and in such a scenario, Punk would be better off wrestling the Undertaker in a ‘Streak vs Streak’ match. But fighting the Undertaker just doesn’t make much sense at this point. (I don’t think it ever will!)
On the other hand if Punk retains, Cena can challenge him for the title and it would be fitting conclusion to the many times Punk has beaten Cena clean in the last few outings and I believe that is the idea.
Either way, Punk has to retain. Savvy?
So what of the Rock? Well, naturally he’s gonna be attacked/distracted during the match somehow and he’d go after the attacker/distracter (maybe Brock Lesnar, maybe Dixie Carter) or if Taker-Sting doesn’t work out, Rock might be asked to try to end the streak. If nothing else he can go and make more movies!
[adinserter name=”366 right”]The only true debatable point here is the way Punk has been booked during the last three months. Punk has come across as a dastardly heel and not as god (as his ‘box with god’ speech implies) Punk needs to be booked strongly during the remaining two weeks in sync with his intense promos. That’s the only way anybody’s gonna take this match seriously. And honestly, it won’t be a bad idea to allow Punk to win rather cleanly. Outside interferences and distractions are expected, but let them be in a way that doesn’t make Punk’s victory a fluke!
