Things are about to heat up in the WWE as the first ever unified WWE champion is back…baby! Chris Jericho is back and has an intriguing feud lined up for WrestleMania 29.
According to Dave Meltzer on his F4Wonline.com podcast Jericho is scheduled back through WrestleMania. While Jericho returned at the Rumble as a babyface, he is expected to turn heel shortly. Meltzer also reported that Jericho is currently penciled in to wrestle Ryback at WrestleMania, although plans could change.
Jericho vs. Ryback is an intriguing match. It isn’t something that immediately jumps out as a match I’m dying to see. However, once you let it simmer it does start to get kind of interesting. Jericho’s reputation to bring the best out of guys like Ryback is one of the best in the business. The idea of putting Ryback in with Y2J on such a big stage is actually exciting once you start to think about it.
I love the idea of bringing Jericho back specifically for this feud. If you remember, Jericho did a tremendous job of helping elevate Dolph Ziggler before he left the WWE. He also did a phenomenal job of helping CM Punk develop as a babyface champion when he came back on his last tour of duty. Granted Ziggler and Punk are much different animals than Ryback but I think Jericho can do some great things with the big man.
The WWE are obviously all in on Ryback. Ryback went to the finals of the Royal Rumble before being eliminated by John Cena. The WWE appears to be specifically bringing Jericho back for this task. They know they have something in Ryback. It is time to season him and see if he can put the skills together to be a versatile top guy and possible WWE champion.
I am still predicting that Ryback will turn heel after WrestleMania. I think he winds up coming back to Cena at some point as a result of the Rumble. Maybe the WWE are so in on Ryback, that they will let it simmer until WrestleMania 30, hoping to recapture the magic of the Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage WrestleMania V rivalry. That’s a tall order but if they play their cards right, it isn’t as laughable as you may think.
In other words the fate of the WWE Universe rests on the shoulders of Chris Jericho.
